About OATOLOGY

Updated 22 July 2026

OATOLOGY makes one thing: a glass jar built specifically for overnight oats, with the oat-measuring lid and milk markings designed in. It began with a healthy breakfast that kept losing to the hassle of making it.

The jar that should have existed

This company started with one sentence: "I can't be bothered to do this every morning."

My wife said it about breakfast. She'd been ill, and eating properly mattered, breakfast most of all. But every night it was the same routine: the recipe pulled up on her phone again, scales out, measuring jug out, ingredients fought into a jar with a mouth too narrow for them. In the morning it went to work in a cheap plastic container, wrapped in a carrier bag because the lid leaked, the spoon rattling loose beside it.

The healthiest habit she had was losing, not to willpower, but to friction. And when I looked for something better, it didn't exist. Just generic containers with "overnight oats" written on them.

So I decided to build it properly. The leak-proof sealing lid took four versions and two trips abroad to the factory, until the carrier bag became unnecessary. The lid measures the oats, the milk line went on the glass, and the scales and jug went back in the cupboard for good. The spoon clips on for the journey out, and fits inside for the journey home.

We called it OATOLOGY, because we ended up taking breakfast far more seriously than any reasonable person should.

She still uses hers every morning. Now it takes ninety seconds.

Why there are recipes here

The jar solved the how. The recipes are the what. Every recipe on this site is made and tested in our own kitchen, in the actual jar, and written in the measurements you will use: grams and millilitres first, with cup conversions alongside. If a ratio is on this site, it is here because we have made it, not because we found it somewhere. That is what "by the OATOLOGY Kitchen" means at the top of each recipe.

The photographs are our own, too. The jar in every shot is the jar you would buy, not a stand-in.

The jar this is all built around

One 450ml glass jar. A stainless steel lid that measures exactly 50g of oats, milk markings up to 300ml on the glass, a leak-proof silicone sealing lid, and a steel spoon that clips on for the commute. No scales, no guesswork, no carrier bag.
